Grants and funding

There are many grants out there available to help you improve your homes carbon footprint and save on your fuel bills.

  • Energy efficiency grants

There is loads of help out there to both save you money and cut your carbon emissions. Local authorities and energy companies across the UK are offering advice, grants and discounted products to help make your home more energy efficient.

  • Low Carbon Buildings Programme

The Low Carbon Buildings Programme (LCBP) was launched in April 2006 to provide grants to homeowners, businesses and communities for both energy efficiency measures and renewable installations.

  • Carbon Emissions Reduction Target

The Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT) is all about reducing CO2 emissions, one of the main causes of climate change. CERT came into effect in April 2008, and it obliges energy companies to take steps to ensure that the amount of CO2 emissions from homes is reduced.

  • Carbon Reduction Commitment

The Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) is a mandatory cap and trade system for mid to large businesses, beginning April 2010. It will allow the public to compare the CO2 emissions of UK's 5000 largest organisations, and force emittors to pay fines to their better-performing competitors.

  • Microgeneration grants

There are a wide number of grants available to help you fund your micro-generation projects. There are often strict eligibility criteria, in particular to your homes energy efficiency.

  • Getting a small loan

If you are keen to crack on with your renewable energy/energy efficiency project but funding is still a problem, then you may be able to apply for a loan from socially-responsible lenders who know the industry. Loans will normally be available to businesses and not-for-profit organisations, rather than householders, and may even be interest-free in some cases.
