the air dolphin 1kw
This is an independent review we have compiled for your reference. Feel free to add your comments or experiences at the bottom of the page.

This Japanese-designed turbine is being distributed by Reading-based Semplice Energy Ltd. Unusually, the turbine features a motorised self-start system, designed to get the blades generating at lower-than -normal wind speeds.

It is also one of the turbines tested as part of the Warwick Wind Trials.

air dolphin power output curve

The graph below shows the typical power produced (in Watts) for the Air Dolphin at different wind speeds. The Air Dolphin features a stall mode, where the turbine is only semi-braked in high winds, allowing energy generation to continue where other turbines stop.

Compare power curve with other turbines

wind turbine blade diameterBlade diameter is an important thing to look at when comparing turbines, since it affects how much power can be captured from the wind. This turbine has a blade diameter of 1.80 metres.

wind turbine anemometerHow windy? If you are thinking of buying a Air Dolphin, we'd advise measuring your wind resource first. Not just because we sell anemometers but it means you will have a much better idea of how much power you might generate.

Interesting if it really does continue to increase in output with w/s above 20m/s, but quite expensive and there are other designs producing more power at normal w/s. Very light weight, this could be good or bad!

Just how much power do these things actually produce ?
It's all well and good quoting 1kw etc - but that is not exactly going to help the world much is it ?
I kW is a tiny percentage of the daily consumption of a single household and the cost is prohitive too
Sorry - this is NOT for me
